Google will very shortly change the way websites are ranked in their search engine. An update to the algorithm is pencilled in for the end of April 2015, this change will reward mobile-friendly sites with a higher search ranking – pushing those that aren’t mobile friendly further down the list of results.
This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact on search results. Your sites ranking on desktop Google searches should not be affected.
Google does not class this change as a “penalty” for not being mobile friendly, but the effect is the same. In mobile searches, mobile-friendly sites will rise up the ranks, meaning that non-friendly sites will by definition be placed lower.
